A Season of Change for Rail Innovators

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
Friday 20th December 2024

A Season of Change for Rail Innovators
Scottish based rail innovators the McCulloch Group have today, 20th December 2024, announced a new season of change moving into 2025. The business founded in 1992 by twin brothers, Billy and Danny McCulloch, along with their wives has grown from a small Ayrshire coastal based business to an international disruptor in the global rail infrastructure maintenance industry. Most recently the businesses products have been involved in critical rail projects as far a field as the USA, Mexico, Australia and closer to home in Europe; this is in addition to the Group’s successful UK based operations working tirelessly for Network Rail and other principal contractors.

Following thirty-two years of partnership the Group can confirm the decision of Billy and Marie McCulloch to exit the business to enable them to focus on time with family and exploring other interests. Billy who has been a key driver in the businesses innovative approach to plant development and project methodology, has previously served as Engineering Director for McCulloch Rail, Managing Director of McCulloch International and latterly as a Non-Executive Director within the Group alongside co-founder and brother Danny.

Commenting on the transition, Billy shared, “McCullochs has been my life for over thirty years, and I am immensely proud to see the products I created being used across the world. My focus has always been on creating solutions that make maintenance tasks simpler and more efficient. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working with some truly talented and incredible people, and I am sincerely grateful to everyone who helped make the dream a reality. It’s impossible to put into words what it means to see an idea that started in my head grow into an international business. I wish everyone at McCulloch Group the very best as they continue to build on this success”

The twin brothers founded the business through the support of a Princes Trust grant, thanks to the efforts of King Charles III, and began by completing de-vegetation works on the railway within the UK. It was during this time that Billy first got the idea for the “TRT”, the businesses patented piece of plant for moving and transposing length of rails – amongst other activities, thanks to its range of accessories. With the business firmly established within the UK over its first two decades of trading it was in 2015 the pair took the company international – firstly into the United States of America, specifically New York in their city transit operations. Fast forward to today and the Group consists of two well-established businesses serving both domestic and international markets and includes an in-house product design and development function.

Danny McCulloch, who along his wife Anne have purchased Billy and Marie’s shareholding,
comments “They say never mix business with family, however despite our differences Billy and I have together with our team built a business to be proud of. Anne and I both thank Billy and Marie for their business partnership over the last thirty-two years, their support in the last eighteen months as we prepared for their transition and wish them the best in health, happiness and success as they move forward.”

Off the back of signing a major distribution agreement covering North America and Brazil at the turn of 2024, the McCulloch Group are predicating an exciting future into 2025 and beyond. For further information on the McCulloch Group visit their website www.mccullochgroup.com
